About the Marigold Logo
Marigold or Cempasúchil flower is meaningful to many cultures around the world and many farmers here in California. The marigold is a natural fumigant and pest deterrent and it is frequently planted as a part of insectary gardens and integrated pest management. A Hmong ceremony called Baci involving the realignment of the body places a pile of marigolds at the center of the offering. Día de los Muertos, The Day of the Dead, uses marigolds to communicate with the spirits; they are considered the emissaries between the living and the passed. They are also used in huge abundance in the South Asian Diwali festival where they are used to create an art form called rangolis. The flowers are native to the Americas and were carried across the world, just to come back to be planted in the California countryside by farmers of color.
